My goal is to help you find your way to understanding your child more completely. You may have wondered about your child’s development since a young age or maybe the question of Autism has been posed by a teacher or family friend. I can help you find your way to an answer. 

If you are a resident of British Columbia, you may be eligible for a public assessment through the BC Autism Assessment Network


Dr. Smart offers low wait, expert private Autism assessments for children ages 6 - 18 in British Columbia.  

There are many reasons some parents prefer a private Autism assessment:

  • Shorter wait times to having their questions and concerns answered 

  • Earlier Autism intervention

  • School support:  BC Ministry of Education Autism funding and support for each child diagnosed with ASD

  • Community funding:  Ministry of Children and Family Development ASD funding- up to $22,000 annually for children under 6 and $6,000 annually for children 6-18

  • Access to the Canadian Disability Tax Credit and Registered Disability Savings Plan

Dr. Katharine Smart is a Qualified Specialist in the province of BC. She is dedicated to providing thorough and compassionate Autism diagnostic services for children and their families. Dr. Smart has been the pediatric lead of the Yukon Autism Diagnostic program for the last 5 years.  Her training and expertise ensure that each assessment is conducted with the highest level of professionalism and care.

Comprehensive Autism Diagnostic Services

  • Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI-R)

    A structured interview conducted with parents or caregivers to gather in-depth information about the child’s early development, communication, social interactions, and behaviour.

  • Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS)

    A standardized assessment that involves observing the child’s communication, social interaction, and play or imaginative use of materials. 

  • Pediatric Assessment and Physical Exam

    A detailed evaluation of your child's medical history and a physical examination to rule out any underlying medical conditions that may affect development and behaviour.

  • Full Diagnostic Report

    Based on the assessments and observations, Dr. Smart will provide a comprehensive diagnostic report. This report will include detailed findings, a diagnosis (if applicable), and recommendations for intervention and support. This report meets the requirements for the diagnosis of ASD in the province of British Columbia and the forms required to access ministry funding will also be provided.
